After being inspired by the advocacy of our District 4 Community Council members during a rezoning near my neighborhood, I decided to create a simple, easy-to-read & non-partisan online guide that covers the basics of the DeKalb County zoning process. I’m not a writer, graphic artist or a web designer; In fact, my only qualification for creating a guide like this was through my own personal experience as a citizen of DeKalb County, having navigated the zoning process before with my neighbors and spending an incredible amount of time researching zoning code, attending meetings and constantly bugging the planning staff with questions!

The DeKalb County planning staff has a basic rezoning guide on their website, which is mostly intended for developers – however, I often feel its not a full representation of the the process from a citizens perspective. I started realizing much of the frustrations and anxiety I see at community meetings is simply from a basic lack of understanding the process. It’s an overwhelming amount to learn when you’ve never been through it before. I hope this site helps my neighbors prepare for zoning meetings, invokes meaningful discussion with their representatives & zoning applicants and ultimately gives them a better perspective on meaningful development in DeKalb. As residents, we all benefit from good, quality growth!

If you know how I can improve this site, please reach out to me. I want to bring the most accurate, up-to-date information to our neighbors as possible – and you can help! Meaningful growth in our county relies on everyone being informed and involved. Thanks for visiting!
